Industrial Consortium
The ALT-EDIC Industrial Consortium provides guidance on Language Technologies development priorities for the ALT-EDIC and offers a forum to elaborate new projects.
Introduction
The ALT-EDIC Industrial Consortium contributes to the ALT-EDIC governance. Its formation was launched on March 6th, 2025.
The Alliance for Language Technologies (ALT-EDIC) aims to develop a common European infrastructure in language technologies to increase Europe’s capacity, boost competitiveness and uphold Europe’s linguistic diversity and cultural richness.
The digital infrastructure and ecosystem around the ALT-EDIC will play a major role in bringing the rich heritage of European languages into the AI era by gathering and hosting common databases, ensuring objective evaluations, training language models, and deploying services around these models. These actions will be essential to uphold European cultural content in the age of mass production by AI systems. European cooperation on these actions will leverage a critical mass of willpower and technological know-how to achieve this goal.
All these actions will benefit the European AI community as a whole, and their implementation requires the Alliance to federate AI technology and service providers, companies, research organisations and institutional players in all its member states. The ALT-EDIC and its partners will be financially supported by answering calls for proposals under the European Union’s programmes.
Consortium composition
The Industrial Consortium is open to enterprises and business support organisations with an interest in Language Technologies and established in the European Economic Area (EEA).
Benefits
The members of the Industrial Consortium will provide guidance on LT development priorities and elect representatives in the Strategic Orientation Committee (SOC). The SOC shall adopt annual or multi-annual strategic orientations for the implementation of ALT-EDIC that will be submitted to the ALT-EDIC Assembly of Members for approval.
The Industrial Consortium will also offer a forum to develop collaborations and elaborate new projects on Language Technologies, in particular projects involving shared data and comparative evaluations that the ALT-EDIC may support.
Registration and timeline
Organisations may request to join the Industrial Consortium at any time. The registration form is available here. Effective participation is subject to the validation of the eligibility of the organisation.
Representatives who register by March 13th will be invited to the ALT-EDIC inauguration on March 20th, 2025, in Villers-Cotterêts, subject to confirmation of eligibility.
The kick-off meeting of the Industrial Consortium is foreseen in the second quarter of 2025. Further meetings will take place at least twice a year, online or in hybrid format.
